In this variation, noone may be convicted of being mafia without a unanimous vote, except for the accused. However, since mafia members would never ordinarily vote to convict each other, you must play this with one of two variations-- (a) you may accuse and vote on multiple persons at the same time, therefore extending accusations to persons who refuse to join your vote, or (b) you may combine this variation with the variation in which mafia members are actually competing with each other.

Note - It may also be possible to play this game in a very complicated fashion along the lines of the Blind Mafia Variant, if the mafia are kept ignorant of who each other are. We have not played any of these variants, but we would expect them to be extraordinarily difficult and time-consuming.
