It may be required that the mafia kill during the night, or that the civilians convict someone during the day.

Note - We have not tried this variant. We have yet to encounter a situation in which it would benefit the mafia to forego killing during the night. Adopting the daytime "must kill" policy may have the effect of drawing out interminably the daytime phase of the game.
